I purchased this cage for my cockatiel last September and soon realized that this cage is a poor choice for cockatiels for several reasons.

1. It is much too small and doesn’t allow the bird the freedom to spread its wings without hitting a perch, a toy or a food dish.

2. There is a 2 inch plastic lip all around the inside of the cage that is very difficult to clean and I have to remove the bird to do it effectively.

3. The plastic front is very difficult to open and close. When I attempt to latch it the whole side of the frame flexes and makes it impossible to close with one hand. I have to brace the side with one hand and close the latch with the other. (The first front door arrived broken and it took several weeks for the manufacturer to send a replacement.) I did not purchase this item from Amazon

4, The worst characteristic of this cage is that the plastic panels have a static charge that attracts the bird’s dander. The panels are always covered with a thin white film and must be dusted constantly, both inside and out. The bird is not happy with my dusting his cage and I have to remove him. If you are stuck with one of these cages, you can dust the outside plastic with a dryer sheet for temporary relief or you could do what I did and buy a new cage. I bought a Prevue Clean Life cage that is very roomy and a cinch to clean.

No bird should ever have to be forced into such a small cage. contrary to popular belief, birds need room in their cage to fly a bit from perch to perch. Also, the clear front is bad because it reduces the amount of room for the bird to move and engage himself. I’d recommend something larger even for the smallest of birds, with horizontal bars on all four sides.

I would recommend this bird cage for a smaller bird rather then a Cockatiel… anything smaller. I think its a great kids first cage, has alot of features from the enrichment toys and top play area… all in one unit. The cage cleans well I find, the bottom slides in and out with ease and I didn’t have trouble with closing the door. I like how its a huge door and can get in and out access rather then a little door.. I guess the downside would be if your birdy flew out or tried escaping… it has a big area to do so in rather then the typical little doors. I can’t compare it to those cages as I never owned one. Our prior bird was a senegal and we had a huge cage… This is our first small bird cage and I am glad we did go with it. Yes all the enrichment pods do take up space but you don’t need them all if you don’t want them. You can easily interchange them rather then put them all in. I gave the cage 4 stars as it definately is too small of a cage for a bird like a cockatiel…. so that is misleading. But if you do your measurements to other small cages, and have a smaller bird, and want an all in one cage, this may work just perfectly for you.
